The office will be closed on Saturday, September 24, so that Dr. McCormick can attend the annual CPK Symposium. Appointments are still available for Thursday and Friday; otherwise, we'll see you next week!
We now offer AcuGraph Meridian Imaging, which enables you to visually see your progress from visit to visit. The following video explains a little more about acupuncture and AcuGraph and should answer a lot of your questions, including whether acupuncture can help you. Contact us for more information or to schedule your appointment.
Here's a heads up for the Art Westport schedule:
Friday, September 9, 1-9 pm
Saturday, September 12, 10 am - 9 pm
Sunday, September 13, 11 am - 5 pm
It takes a little extra time to find a parking spot starting Friday afternoon, so try to schedule your OM visit for earlier in the week unless you want to check out some art after your visit.
Visit www.artwestport.info for more information about the event and www.omchirokc.com to schedule your OM Session.
I'm now certified in Webster Technique and a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). Here's a link to more information about the technique and why it's so great for pregnant women. Contact us if you've been searching for a chiropractor to help your body function at its best throughout pregnancy and beyond.
And you thought childbirth was going to be the hardest part?! Expecting and new mothers can experience a host of aches and pains before, during, and after labor. The good news is that chiropractic and acupuncture can provide relief. I'll be attending a seminar this weekend to learn the latest updates in chiropractic perinatal care, so the office will be closed on Saturday (1/23/2016). Looking forward to sharing these new insights with you next week!
Are you suffering from technology overuse posture? Hint: if you're regularly chained to your computer or phone for more than 20 minutes without a break, you probably are, which means you are damaging both your structural alignment and fascia. Chronically poor alignment and myofascial restrictions result in pain, reduced mobility, and (eventually) arthritis. The image below demonstrates how much heavier your head feels to your neck joints as you become more and more involved on your phone.
Luckily, there are lots of ways to counteract this damage, including taking breaks every 20 minutes to stretch, getting up to walk around every hour, exercising with a special focus on stretching for at least 15 minutes a day, and Chiropractic Plus Kinesiology treatments. Here's a great goop feature about Lauren Roxburgh's method for addressing this epidemic. If you have been suffering from pain or have been diagnosed with a neuromusculoskeletal condition (examples include but are not limited to bulging disc, scoliosis, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, arthritis), check with your doctor or schedule an appointment at OM before trying her stretches so that we can make sure they will help rather than harm you. I just tried all of the exercises in the article, and I feel great!
My little brother, Jared M. Oborny, is graduating with his doctor of chiropractic degree from Cleveland Chiropractic College! It's a Cleveland tradition for chiropractic family members to join their graduate on stage for the receipt of the diploma; and since my dad, Dr. Jerome B. Oborny of WaKeeney, KS; my older brother, Dr. Jeremy S. Oborny of Colorado Springs, CO; and I are all chiropractic graduates from Cleveland, we'll be up on stage to congratulate him.
As a result, OM will be closed tomorrow, and Saturday OM Sessions are by appointment only (call today or tomorrow to schedule--we'll be checking the voicemails periodically tomorrow). Welcome to the profession, Dr. Oborny! Four cheers for the four Oborny family chiropractors!
Have you heard the phrase, "Sitting is the new smoking?" Not to diminish the benefits of smoking cessation; but bursts of activity throughout the day seem to go a long way toward preventing chronic debilitating diseases as discussed in this brief MBG article, which not only cites scientific evidence but also provides a link to some cheesy (but effective) videos about how to add bursts of activity to your day.
Personally, I do five reps each of lunges, squats, jumping jacks, push-ups, and crunches (it takes about 1-2 minutes) in between patients whenever I get the chance even though I'm lucky enough to belong to a pretty physically active profession. I also get adjusted 1-2 times per week since my job is so physically demanding. What about you? How do you add fitness to your day? Have you found the right chiropractor for you yet?
I love www.eattobeat.org along with Dr. Li's fantastic TedTalk from 2010, but here's a cheat sheet from MBG on the best alkalizing superfoods along with recipes--soba salad for me please! If that entire sentence sounded like jibberish to you, let's get together to talk about why these foods are so good for you: 816.561.1185.
Happy holidays! We're open today and Friday this week in case you need a real chiropractor;-) We're back to normal hours next week--yes, even on New Years Day.
