Have you been experiencing extra stress lately? I'm assuming the answer is yes, especially if you're a Kansas City Royals fan! Whether it's a barrage of constant physical, mental, and/or chemical stressors or intermittent exposure; the result can be lost sleep, decreased immunity, increased susceptibility to injury, and unexpected/undesired weight fluctuations.  

There are three major glands involved in modulating stress: the hypothalamus, anterior pituitary, and adrenal glands. These make up the HPA Axis. Using your body's biofeedback muscle response system, you chiropractor can determine if these three glands are all functioning properly so that he/she can make necessary structural corrections to your body (improper muscle and joint function can cause stress to the body directly or indirectly through pain generation) and recommend certain lifestyle changes including dietary and nutritional recommendations, daily meditation, ways to reduce your exposure to various chemical toxins, and daily movement recommendations. We can also determine whether there is a larger problem that may require comanagement with or referral to an endocrinologist, neurologist, or other specialist since chiropractors help with functional health and not necessarily disease management.

Stand Tall & Be Strong

I'm excited to announce our first collaboration with Inner Space Yoga (ISY) at 514 E 31st St in KCMO:
Stand Tall & Be Strong: A Healthy Spine & Perfect Posture Workshop
This 60-minute workshop held on Sunday, November 9th from 10-11 a.m. at ISY will provide you with the knowledge and skills that you need to build a strong foundation for a healthy spine as well as to help you perfect your posture so that you feel and look stronger, taller, and even more confident than you already are. These exercises may also help reduce and prevent back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, and headaches. 

Wear comfortable workout clothes--the majority of the workshop will involve lots of movement! Don't worry about footwear since we'll be performing the exercises barefoot, and feel free to bring your own yoga mat (although mats are available at ISY) and a bottle of water since you might work up a bit of a sweat. The exercises we teach you in the workshop are easy to learn but challenging to perform since you'll be strengthening many of the larger muscles of the body.

Anytime I meet a new person, the conversation eventually meanders to what we each do for a living. When I tell him or her that I'm a chiropractor, I inevitably receive one of two reactions:
  1. "Oh, I just love chiropractic! It's helped me and my family so much!!" To which my response, is, "That's wonderful!"
  2. "Oh, I don't really believe in chiropractic." To which my response is, "Oh, I see," and then I change the subject.

If you are on the fence about the efficacy of chiropractic, this will help you understand why it's an excellent first choice for healthcare, particularly for neuromusculoskeletal problems.
